Background & Circumstances
Prabhuji Sharvari Acharya, aged 88, was living at her residence in Saraswati Society, Irla, Vile Parle West, with her daughter. After the death of her husband, both mother and daughter gradually withdrew from the outside world. Over time, they stopped leaving the house and remained without consistent food, medical attention or proper care. This prolonged isolation worsened their physical and emotional well-being, leaving them increasingly vulnerable and in urgent need of compassionate support.
The Call for Help
A local social worker from Vile Parle learned about their situation and promptly contacted the Apna Ghar Ashram Mumbai rescue helpline. Recognising the gravity of the situation, the rescue team arrived without delay. During the visit, they found the daughter in critical condition. Alongside initiating the rescue process for Prabhuji Sharvari, the team arranged for her daughterβs immediate admission to Cooper Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The Rescue & Arrival
With assistance from the concerned authorities, Prabhuji Sharvari was safely brought to Apna Ghar Ashram. Police verification and admission formalities were completed with sensitivity and care. On arrival, Sevasaathis supported her with a bath and provided clean, comfortable clothes. She appeared withdrawn and was unable to share personal details at that time. The team prioritised her immediate comfort by offering warm meals, water, medical attention and a calm place to rest. Through gentle reassurance and patient support, she began her first moments in a safer, more protected environment.
Settling into Safety
Gradually, Prabhuji Sharvari began responding to the warmth around her. Within a few days, she expressed appreciation for the ashramβs peaceful environment and nourishing food. She shared that she had once worked in a library and loved reading. The bhajan and kirtan atmosphere brought her comfort. Living in a ward with many other women, she started talking with them, recalling stories from books she remembered and acknowledging the kindness of those who helped her daily. Slowly, a feeling of belonging replaced her earlier loneliness.
The Present Moment
Today, Prabhuji Sharvari lives safely at Apna Ghar under regular care and supervision. She follows the daily routine, eats her meals, spends time with fellow residents and remains part of the spiritual environment, living with dignity within the community.
